Countries where sex toys are banned

If you are planning a long vacation with your sex toys, you might want to take a step back. While traveling with sex toys within the United States is perfectly legal, that’s necessarily not the case with international travels. In some countries, it is banned to bring sex toys, and doing so can land you in a lot of trouble. If you are considering traveling abroad with your sex toys, here are some laws in popular travel destinations that you should know about.
Maldives: One of the most popular travel destinations, Maldives is a common honeymoon spot for newly married couples. However, if you are looking to spice up your honeymoon with some sex toys, then you are in for a bad treat. According to the laws of the Maldives, it is illegal to bring any pornographic material to the country. Since sex toys fall under “pornographic material,” it’s not allowed in the country. There have been several instances where visitors were outright refused entrance to the country just because they had packed a couple of sex toys. So, if you are planning a trip to the Maldives, it’s best to leave your love toys behind.
Saudi Arabia: The laws in Saudi Arabia are pretty much similar to the Maldives. Visitors are not allowed to bring any pornographic materials into the country. Since the Maldives and Saudi Arabia are Islamic countries, they take these laws very seriously. While Saudi Arabia only confiscates sex toys upon discovery, there have been instances where people have been detained or sent back to their home country. So, if you are planning to travel to Saudi Arabia and enjoy its famous sand dunes, don’t bring your sex toys along for the ride.
The United Arab Emirates: Of late, Dubai has been a popular destination for visitors worldwide. It’s majestic skyscrapers, windy deserts, and buzzing markets; there is so much to like about Dubai. What many visitors don’t know is that Dubai falls under the United Arab Emirates, and as progressive as it is, Dubai doesn’t allow sex toys or other pornographic materials. If you are found with a sex toy trying to enter the United Arab Emirates, you will be fined up to USD 250, or more depending on the situation. You will also be asked to sign documents, which are all in Arabic, so you don’t have an idea of what’s written, stating that you won’t do this again. At this point, it’s safe to assume that all Islamic countries don’t allow sex toys, and you don’t want to get caught with one at customs.
Thailand: This surprises many people. Thailand is a backpacker’s dream and everyone’s first time abroad. Thailand is cheap, has amazing food and places, and also has a red-light district for anyone seeking action. However, sex toys are illegal in Thailand. While the country is not as strict as Islamic nations, you will be charged a fine, and your sex toys will be confiscated. The customs department of Thailand classifies sex toys as obscene goods consider them illegal.
Vietnam: A most recent addition to the list, it hasn’t been long since Vietnam banned the entry of sex toys within their national boundaries. In 2011, Vietnam announced that it would not allow the entry of sex toys into the country, and any toys found would be confiscated. However, Vietnam is not as strict as other countries on the list. They will return your sex toy the day you leave the country. However, you might be charged a fine depending on the severity of the situation.
India: The laws regarding sex toys in India are not exactly clear. The customs department states that any item that triggers sexual thoughts and behaviors will not be allowed inside the country. This can mean a book, drawings, objects, or something entirely different. If it triggers sexual thoughts and behaviors, you are not allowed to bring it into the country. This means you are allowed to bring in some sex toys depending on how they look. Sex toys shaped like genitalia and are obvious are not allowed inside the country. On the other hand, sex toys that are not obvious at first glance might be allowed into the country.
Malaysia: The only place you should never be caught with sex toys is Malaysia. Despite being an affordable destination for many tourists, Malaysia doesn’t allow the entry of sex toys through its borders. The Malaysian penal code states that it is illegal to own or distribute obscene items within the country, including sex toys. Unlike most nations on the list, getting caught with sex toys in Malaysia is punishable by law. If found, you can be jailed for up to three years in addition to a hefty fine.
As much as we would like for everyone to see the brilliance of sex toys, some countries aren’t quite open to the idea. If the country you are traveling to doesn’t allow sex toys, don’t bring them along. Respect the rules and regulations of the country.
